Mississippi Teen Birth Rate is Highest

Article here. Wow, just look at that top ten list. Evil liberal California, New York and Massachusetts are nowhere to be seen! Mississippi is also regularly cited as one of the most religious states in the country, up there with Alabama, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Meanwhile, as a region, eminently secular New England has the lowest teen pregnancy rate. Could it be that religious morality doesn't work as well as fact-based morality?

Of course, the alternative explanation is that the high teen pregnancy rate of Mississippi (and the other very religious states that also have high birth rates) is accounted for by other factors - economic and demographic. Which means that those things are more important than religion in determing people's behavior.
