First Big Obama Mistake

The honeymoon is over. It turns out that we nonbelievers are not so easily mollified by a few scraps tossed our way during the inaugural address. At least I'm not the only person annoyed by this.

Didn't we have enough of this faith-based nonsense under Bush? Having a guy like Warren at your inauguration is bad enough. Expanding official programs that give money to professional religious discriminators is much worse. Maybe it's a political trick to get atheists to step up and say to the faithful "I tried, but these bad atheists stopped me". Somehow I doubt it's that complicated. But if that is indeed the tactic, then I'm happy to be one of his scapegoats.

It's about time for somebody to get a big-ass whiteboard and draw a line down the middle and put up two headers. Those headers are "Public" and "Private."

Pick a side.

"To us, it's not a matter of discrimination, it's a matter of our faith ethos," said Samuel Rodriguez, the president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. "What they are telling us is to negate who we are in order to acquire federal grants. ... That's just unacceptable."

How about you don't take the money? Isn't Christ credited with the whole "Render unto Caesar" deal? I'm pretty sure he didn't follow that up with plans for taking advantage of tax exempt status and collecting federal grants.

That money ought to go into the space program.
