It's Really True What They Say About Arkansas

The Arkansas State Constitution states, "No person who denies the being of a God shall hold any office in the civil departments of this state, nor be competent to testify as a witness in any court."

Eventually this clause will be challenged, it will lose. Until then, I'd love to see Arkansas atheists make trouble for the state court system by refusing to testify in cases where they're being called as hostile witnesses. "Can't testify your honor. I'm an atheist; I'm not competent."

Even stranger, the Arkansas Legislature lists the religions of its members on its official website. Creepy (just like Donna Hutchinson). Like many Southern U.S. states, Arkansas has a long history of confusing church and state, and Buddy Blair (mentioned in that article) has a history of making life difficult for Mike Huckabee's wheeling and dealing with taxpayer money. Let's hope there are enough people in Arkansas that understand the underpinnings of American democracy to counteract the likes of Hutchinson and Huckabee.
