Earthquakes or Being Chaste: The Trade-Off

At Friendly Atheist Hemant posted the following comment from Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, a theocrat predictably desperate to justify his bullshit values by connecting them to natural disasters:

"Many women who do not dress modestly...lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes."

If only it were so easy. All in favor of being corrupted by immodest wo/men in exchange for a few earthquakes, raise your hand! (I can tell you that despite the earthquakes at my house recently there's nothing nearly that interesting going on.)

It might be that Mr. Sedighi is just jealous at having escaped the aforementioned plague of good looks which has befallen the rest of his people. Ouch! Below the belt!

On a more serious note, we might ask whether Iran's oil officials turn to this man for geology advice. After all, Iran's oil industry is at the center of its economy, and where such serious matters are concerned, if they really believed some guy talking to a ghost in a cave fourteen centuries ago, they would just ask Mr. Sedighi instead of wasting their time with secular science.
