Most Human Reasoning Operates Like This

Most human reasoning operates like the one on the right. Human reasoning that produces a true, actionable belief operates like the one on the left. This is why, if you want to know the truth, you need to think clearly and honestly in ways that can be disproven if you're wrong.



A theory is a belief that explains lots of observations, unifies prediction rules, and is connected to other beliefs, all in an explicitly testable (dis-proveable-false) way. A good test of the coherence of theories in general is what they have measurably produced. Creationism had all of history until the 1860s and didn't do squat. I'm not holding my breath for creationist biomedical companies.
