This Sunday November 11th from 1:00 to 2:30pm, Secular Coalition for American Executive Director Edwina Rogers will be at the Point Loma Library (3701 Voltaire Street) at 1 pm. Rogers will be talking about the issues Secular Americans face, what the Coalition is doing on our behalf, and how we can help. The Meetup info is here. Barring last minute emergencies I will be there.
Why am I personally excited about this? (Besides obviously that the SCA's executive director is coming to talk to us?) Rogers served as an Economic Advisor for President George W. Bush at the White House (gasp!), at the National Economic Council, where she focused on health and social security policy. She also worked on International Trade matters for President George H. W. Bush at the Department of Commerce from 1989 until 1991.
Let that sink in. A former Bush Republican is head of SCA. This is excellent - it means that rationalism is doing well, because we're found everywhere! If you're still not feeling quite right about that: "...it’s a good idea to have somebody from the political right who is an
atheist, because otherwise there’s a confusion of values which doesn’t help us.
And it’s much better to have this diversity in other areas." (Richard Dawkins.)
Also, a note to readers: my posting is spotty at times, due to the rigors of my schedule. Thanks for bearing with me. This blog isn't going anywhere even if it's sometimes quiet for a little while. Stay subscribed and keep it bookmarked! Near as I can tell, this is the atheist blog in San Diego, which I still find incredible, and I want it to be a useful resource. If you want to become a regular contributor to keep these quiet periods from happening, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
